Kettering Yacht Club welcomes people to register for the Australian Sailing Discover Sailing Keelboat course. This is a 2 day course run over 2 weekends with the majority of time on the water learning skills and techniques that will give you the confidence and ability to start crewing and enjoying what can be a life-long sport.

The focus is on fun and safety with a small group of attendees joining an accredited Instructor. All safety equipment and course materials provided, simply bring your lunch and some layered warm clothing. On completion of the course you will receive an accreditation certificate and the Kettering Yacht Club can provide matched crewing options for you to enjoy your new skills on the water and also join the clubhouse social environment.

Winter can often be a great time of the year to learn to sail with more predictable weather and usually milder winds. Yes, it can be a cooler on the water but you will soon forget that as you get into the grooves of 'learning the ropes'. The maximum number of course attendees is 5 and we usually aim for 4 people as a preference ensuring you spend the most of your time 'learning and doing' in a non-judgemental and fun environment with constant encouragement and assistance from your instructor.

Please be mindful that we do keep a watch on the weather and whilst we usually get great sailing days we may have to change dates should the weather not align with the safety and fun aspect of sailing.

Who should do this course?

This course is designed for participants who wish to begin sailing in a keelboat. Learn the basics, whilst staying relatively dry! All the equipment and gear will be provided by your accredited Discover Sailing Centre.

Course Outcome

You will gain your Start Crewing completion certificate.
