Newsletter: 1 May 2020

Published Fri 01 May 2020

Dear Members,

An update from the KYC committee below.

With Covid 19 social distancing measures in place the Committee meeting scheduled for Tuesday 14th April was cancelled. In its place is this communication that was drafted and agreed by all members of the committee.

Knowing that the current distancing restrictions will be in place for some time we will not be proceeding with any of the remaining 2019 – 2020 season’s calendar events. The committee will continue to meet online and will produce an occasional newsletter to be distributed to members with the aim of keeping everyone in the loop. If you have observations, articles, pictures or any other content that maybe of interest to KYC members for the newsletter please send them to John Dryden at j.dryden333@gmail.com

The committee’s focus is now on getting KYC’s 2020 - 2021 sailing season up and running as smoothly as possible as soon as we can responsibly do so. To this end:

  • Most committee members will remain in their current positions until such time as we are able to hold a traditional AGM. (Please see Luke’s resignation note below).
  • At this stage we are proposing that the traditional annual welcome BBQ, held on the Friday immediately before the first twilight, be expanded to include the AGM and the 2019 - 2020 season prize giving. We will need to consider a plan B if things are still looking grim Covid wise at the September committee meeting.
  • The Club’s financial year runs from 1st May to 30th April. The 2019 - 2020 financials will be audited in line with the constitutional requirement distributed at the AGM as per normal practice and will be available to members upon request prior to the AGM.

In the meantime:

  • Suzie presented the March accounts which show the club to be in the black to the tune of $60k.
  • Work has begun on the 2020 - 2021 sailing program booklet. If members have any suggestions for next season’s program please forward them to Mike Burrows at mikeburrows2909@gmail.com
  • KYC logo T Shirts/polos/rugby tops are been investigated and road tested.
  • Work on a KYC yacht club facilities master plan has been begun with the aim of sharing a draft vision for the site to members at the opening event of the 2021 season.
  • Talks with DSS have begun around possible partnership for the co-hosting of some events.
  • The lease of the land that the club house sits on is being re-negotiated with the Marina.
  • Work on the development of a floating pontoon for a berth for the committee boat and launch platform for smaller boats (I5’s, kayaks etc) is being undertaken.
  • Luke Burrows has decided to resign from the committee. In his resignation letter Luke states that he loves the club and sailing but just wanted to step back from the formal committee role. On behalf of the committee and members we thank him for all his efforts with regards to the club and look forward to seeing him around when we get back sailing.

Kind Regards

Mike and Kettering Yacht Club Committee
